If you have no plans and you’re looking for something fun to do tomorrow night, our friends at Coast Modern are throwing a fundraising soiree in Strathcona.
Coast Modern is a documentary project about the history of residential modernist architecture on the West Coast of North America, and how our laid back culture informed the movement.
For anyone with an interest in Modernism, or a chance to mix with some of the local luminaries of the modernist architecture set, here’s your opportunity to do it with oysters on the half shell and fine local wine and beer!
Tickets are $10, including a free drink. If any of you design oriented types are interested in snapping up a limited poster, you can snap up a ticket + poster for $100. Our favourite is the blue handmade limited edition Byron O’Neill silkscreen print, but the pink one is pretty awesome too!
Buy Tickets Here: http://coastmodernfundraiser.eventbrite.com (http://coastmodernfundraiser NULL.eventbrite NULL.com/)
Invite your friends on Facebook (https://www NULL.facebook NULL.com/event NULL.php?eid=124894487601667).

We’ve been asked many times where we get our ideas for our windows, so we thought we would share the building of our ‘Back to School’ window display at our Commercial Drive location.
All photos have been taken on the iPhone.
First: We had the desks painted by our friend Sean at AL Creations. Thanks Sean!

Oh so neat and tidy all in a row.
Then Jimmy and Pete loaded them up and delivered them. Thanks Jimmy and Pete, we think you’re swell!

Then we stacked them and realized that we had to hold them in place while Greg used wire to secure them… This took many, many hours… We even ran out of wire and had to go get more.

But the wine helped us cope… See, now we’re smiling. Miss Maggie even gave us a leg up.

And voila! We’re done. Phew.

See you there from noon to 6pm between Venables and 1st Avenue!
We don’t care how you get here…just don’t drive!

Just ask Sophie and her boyfriend, Oliver. Waiting patiently for their smoothies….

Saying ‘please’ as the drinks come into view…..

Yum! Now it’s time to settle down and enjoy the story.

Our good friends Karri and Nico just had their restaurant Chambar (http://www NULL.chambar NULL.com/) featured on VancouverIsAwesome.com (http://www NULL.vancouverisawesome NULL.com), in their ‘Home Grown’ section. Chambar really needs no introduction, as they’ve been a hit since they opened their doors in 2004 in the Crosstown area of Vancouver, on Beatty Street.
And of course, who could forget our favourite breakfast spot, their cafe… Medina Cafe (http://www NULL.medinacafe NULL.com/) (located right beside Chambar). Best coffee and lemon meringue pie in town! And if that couldn’t be enough goodness, they recently opened a cooking school called Dirty Apron (http://www NULL.dirtyapron NULL.com). Now you can learn how to make that tagine at home. AND if that wasn’t enough… they also have their own Chambar Ale. Cheers Karri and Nico!
You can see the full story and short interview with Karri and Nico on the VancouverIsAwesome (http://vancouverisawesome NULL.com/2009/10/23/home-grown-chambar/) site.

We are so pleased that our lovely friend Erin has realized her dream! Her new retail shop and workshop space, Collage Collage (http://www NULL.collagecollage NULL.ca), opening on Saturday, September 12 (Join the party from 1-4 in the afternoon!) in East Vancouver, is light-filled and airy. A perfect space for everyone who would like to engage with the arts, find inspiration and explore contemporary works through workshops and classes. A long wooden table dominates the space, inviting creativity and collaboration. It is a place to find some art supplies, a story book, a small sculpture or a new pair of scissors – and that hardest to find of necessary art items – a good pencil sharpener!
We have had the pleasure of having Erin lead a Halloween-based craft workshop at dandelion KIDS that was enjoyed by all, the results of which made up one of our most beautiful and spooky window displays! And long ago, when he was in preschool, Stefanie’s son Jasper, was seriously enamored of Erin after she led several art classes. Her education in the fine arts and her gentle approach will ensure that participants of her workshops will be inspired to create and learn, over and over again.
We can’t wait to sign up!

Victor and his wife Julia are long time supporters and clients of dandelion, (Victor is also my hairstylist and now Stefs too!). Victor was just interviewed on a local cycling blog, talking about his love of cycling and hairstyling. It’s great to see our friends getting this kind of great coverage and wanted to spread the word.
From Bespoke:
Victor Cuevas Jr, owner of Rain City Bikes is almost certainly Vancouver’s ‘new man’. Not only does he own Vancouver’s nicest city bikes, he also sports Vancouver’s nicest hairstyle. It helps that he owns Rain City Salon and Rain City Bikes – a strange, but prescient combination. Victor is a familar face riding around Vancouver, tie and hair in the wind on his luxurious Dutch bike. As a hair stylist, Victor has the advantage of seeing things from outside of the box. In fact, what was missing in his eyes was nothing more than a box, in this case, the popular Bakfiets (literally: box-bike) bike which he imports into Canada. Today Victor sells a ton of Euro bikes to regular folks who just want a comfortable, safe, and durable bike that they can wear their regular clothes with. He’s making Vancouver more beautiful one bike – and one hair-style – at a time. Eric Kamphof, editor of bespoke (and a former Vancouverite) conducts the interview.
