The making of Dandelion KIDS Back to School Window

Friday, September 3rd, 2010

We’ve been asked so may times where we get our ideas for our windows so we thought we would share the building of our Back to School window display at our Commercial Drive location.

All photos have been taken by the iphone.

First :  We had the desks painted by our friend Sean at AL Creations.  Thanks Sean!

Oh so neat and tidy all in a row.

Then Jimmy and Pete loaded them up and delivered them. Thanks Jimmy and Pete, we think you’re swell!

Then we stacked them and realized that we had to hold them in place while Greg used wire to secure them…this took many, many hours….we even ran out of wire and had to go get more.

but the wine helped us cope…see, now we’re smiling.  Miss Maggie even gave us a leg up.

and voila!  We’re done.  Phew.

Friday, June 18th, 2010

We can’t wait! For Car Free Day, Commercial Drive turns into a big, fun party with tons of kids, dogs, bikes and a little craziness.  Loads of music, amazing food, street hockey, a roller disco (yes, with old school roller skates! and cool DJ’s) and much much more!

See you there from noon to 6pm between Venables and 1st Avenue!

We don’t care how you get here…just don’t drive!

The Art Express

Art Fun and Theatre Fun:  Together on The Art Express.
We just get so happy whenever we see the amazing Art Express bus zooming around the neighbourhood so we were thrilled to hear about their collaboration with the Cultch.
On Saturday May 1, The Art Express launched a terrific event to go along with The Family Time Series at The Cultch.  Participants in the program got involved in a puppet making workshop on board The Art Express, and then were led inside The Cultch for a presentation of “The Tooth Fairy”, a puppet play presented by The Old Trout Puppet Workshop from Alberta.
“This was a partnership that was just waiting to happen.  The idea of pulling up with our bus right in front of The Cultch, making puppets and then heading in for a puppet play, made for such a complete creative experience!  I really love the idea of supporting a great place like The Cultch – such a wonderful venue with so much cool stuff going on – we need to turn our attention to such cultural events, and enrich our lives by sharing in the talent that surrounds us” (Michael Bray, owner/operator of The Art Express).
The Family Time Series at The Cultch (http://www NULL.thecultch NULL.com/) will continue next year, beginning in the Fall, and The Art Express (http://www NULL.theartexpress NULL.com/) will be offering up their art fun/theatre fun combo to families with children between 6 – 10 years of age.  The Cultch plans to hold four family time series over the 2010/2011 theatre season.  Contact The Art Express by e-mail info@theartexpress.com for more information and to be put on their contact list.

Yay! It’s Almost Mother’s Day!

Sunday, May 2nd, 2010

Mother’s Day is such a special day for many families…not least for the kids who want to make or do something utterly wonderful for their Mamas. In our house, there have been some French Toast making lessons much to my hearts delight! Spring flowers are also a lovely way to express happiness and love. Naturally, we think a fistful of dandelions from our favourite little hands and a big hug are priceless gifts for Mother’s Day! However, if you want to put together something slightly more extravagant, our two shops are conveniently near two amazing florists:

The Flower Box on Charles Street in Vancouver is a stone’s throw from our shop. Just follow the scattered rose petals from Commercial Drive and you can’t miss it. Beautiful pre-made bouquets in a variety of price points decorate the entrance. Inside, chose from all manner of gorgeous blooms or potted flowers. The helpful staff will assist in putting together a charming arrangement with skillful hands. Can you tell we are fans?

Just across the way from dandelion KIDS in Suter Brook Village, Port Moody is Bayshore Floral and Gift Gallery. A lovely little shop with loads of pretty bouquets and stems to chose from that brightens our day. Again, helpful and friendly staff will make the blooms you chose evolve into beautiful bouquets perfect for Mom!

dandelion KIDS Wins Stars of Vancouver Award

Tuesday, February 2nd, 2010

We received an email from the Vancouver Courier (http://www2 NULL.canada NULL.com/vancouvercourier/index NULL.html) a few weeks ago notifying us of something pretty special. The email said “Congratulations! You are a winner in the STARS OF VANCOUVER. Dandelion Kids has been recognized as 1st place in the Kids Clothing Store category Eastside.”

Wow! Now that’s the kind of email we love receiving! We were surprised and thrilled when we found out that Vancouver Courier readers had chosen us as their favourite.
