Bilibo Imagination Toy

Friday, January 21st, 2011

Bilibo. It’s a magic imagination toy. Offered in 6 bright, beautiful colours in a hard-wearing shell shape. Kids LOVE these!

Parents are quick to ask “What is it?” when they see Bilibos in dandelion KIDS …so we just let kids tell the story …”Oh, I see, they can be ANYTHING!”

A Hat?

Sit and spin using legs, helping to develop leg strength and coordination.

Sit and rock in it, helping to build core strength and balance.

Turn it over and stand on top, helping to develop balance and core strength.

Eat your popcorn out of it!

The shells are also used in physiotherapy to stimulate the vestibular and proprioceptive  (perception of movement) systems.

It’s an imagination toy – used for role and fantasy play. Fill it with stuff : sand, water, baby dolls. The Bilibo  even floats, it’s sturdy enough for leapfrog, good as a hat for Dad, works as a stool…as a sled (though instructions clearly say its not a sled, wink wink), on the carpet it’s best!
Dandelion also carries  Mini Bilibos which can become a spinning top, a boat in the bath tub, a treasure trove, a game piece, an exotic shell, a designer’s seat for a doll, a cup for snow balls, a circle ramp for toy cars….children will use their imaginations to quickly find many wonderful ways to play with the Minis!
Bilibo has received several international awards, including Spiel Gut in Germany, the Swiss Product Design Award in 2002 and Toy of the Year – UK Good Toy Awards in 2006.

Another Person’s Treasure….

Sunday, December 12th, 2010

A few years ago, British Columbia was hit hard with the Pine Beetle infestation. It wiped out growths of the mature Lodgepole Pine trees. CBC reported by the end of 2006, the cumulative outbreak area affected was estimated at 130,000 square kilometres, or close to the total area of England. Luckily for us, Little House, a Vancouver-based company, owned by the lovely Caitlin and her husband, Paul, had the grand idea of using the beetle wood to make building blocks.  This idea came after they arrived in Kelowna, BC after leaving their life behind in NYC. They noticed the drastic change in the landscape as the result of the pine beetle and knew that the wood wasn’t being used by many people. As a result they figured that this would be a good product to work with, both because of its ubiquity and its gorgeous colouring.

Suitable for children and adults alike. The Beetle Blocks are made from the unmistakable blue-stained wood of Ponderosa Pine affected by the western pine beetle. These blocks utilize a precious resource otherwise unused.  They are cut to size by a local mill and then sanded and finished by Paul. 100% handmade in British Columbia, and totally natural, this set of 30 blocks is thoughtfully designed and hand crafted for small hands and growing minds.
