Eat, Drink & Be Merry…don’t worry about the drive!

Thanks to BierCraft Tap and Tapas (formerly known as Stella’s), we can eat, drink and be merry and NOT drive home or worry about hailing a cab or taking public transit.

The new drinking laws and that darn HST has taken a bite out of our favourite restaurants. BierCraft has found a way to fight back and keep their customers happy. They have launched the one and only first of its kind Free Courtesy Shuttle here in Vancouver (let’s hope they’ve started a trend!). They will provide a ride home within 30 city blocks. The only downfall to this plan is that it’s only available for the moment at their Commercial Drive location from 5 pm till closing…so no boozy lunches.

Lets raise our glasses to BierCraft Tap and Tapas for their ingenious idea and for getting us home safely.

Amen!

Our Christmas Window Display – Made from Recycled Plastic Bottles

Friday, December 17th, 2010

We’ve been so busy this holiday season we just haven’t had time to share our window display with you yet. On top of that, our usual photographer, Brenndan,  just had a baby boy, so he’s a little busy to say the least. So our friend, Libby, stepped in to help us capture the window.

When Stefanie and Maria were in NYC last year, they fell in love with Anthropologie spring window. They had made flower gardens out of plastic bottles. Making stuff from plastic bottles wasn’t new to us – but it was definitely inspiring. What could we do that was different and still pay homage to one of our favourite stores? Why a Christmas Tree, of course!

With many many thanks to our army of friends who gathered on 2 different nights to help put this amazing tree together. Lots of laughs, great food and great wine, of course!

Ingredients:
– 350 recycled bottles, courtesy of Spartacus Athletic Club. Thanks Herb!
– 1 Georgia Straight newspaper
– 30 pine cones
– 1 large bag of shredded recycled paper

Our Army:
– Lead by Maria and Stefanie
– Dama’in Chapman
– Greg Middleton

Studio 32 Photography and dandelion KIDS want to spoil you.

Tuesday, December 7th, 2010

Have you been naughty or nice? Either way, we want to spoil you with a free $225 portrait sitting at Studio 32 Photography after spending $75 (before tax) at dandelion KIDS. Even if you don’t have kids, you could get a beautiful portrait of yourself taken or grab your significant other or gal pals. Now that’s treat!

We’ve witnessed Libby’s friendly, easy-going photo shoots first hand and we just love her. She is so great with people and can make any child smile with delight. Libby set up a Kissing Booth at our shop in Port Moody for the Suter Brook Christmas Event and the pictures are so super adorable. We promise we’ll post them shortly.

So, what are you waiting for?

It’s That Time Again! Eastside Culture Crawl

Tuesday, November 16th, 2010

Wow, the Eastside Culture Crawl is in its 14th year, this November 26 + 27 + 28, 2010. It’s grown so much since the first year and now the Crawl is expecting more than 10,000 people to participate. For 3 days, you can visit 375 artists inside their studios in the area bounded by Main Street to Victoria Drive and from First Avenue north to the waterfront of Vancouver.

This is a free event and is a perfect outing for the whole family.

We have a few suggestions:

One studio you shouldn’t miss is mixed media artist Jada-Gabrielle Pape’s.  We just love Norah’s Birds ( shown below). Her studio is located at 1160 Victoria Drive (garden studio).

We also encourage you to drop by our good friend Sascha’s Gallery Atsui and check out the 10 x10 Show which also features another friends work- Erin Boniferro. We love Gallery Atsui because it’s on the cutting edge of the art world with its mandate of consistently inviting guest curators.

See you there!

The Art Express

Friday, May 14th, 2010

Art Fun and Theatre Fun:  Together on The Art Express.
We just get so happy whenever we see the amazing Art Express bus zooming around the neighbourhood so we were thrilled to hear about their collaboration with the Cultch.
On Saturday May 1, The Art Express launched a terrific event to go along with The Family Time Series at The Cultch.  Participants in the program got involved in a puppet making workshop on board The Art Express, and then were led inside The Cultch for a presentation of “The Tooth Fairy”, a puppet play presented by The Old Trout Puppet Workshop from Alberta.
“This was a partnership that was just waiting to happen.  The idea of pulling up with our bus right in front of The Cultch, making puppets and then heading in for a puppet play, made for such a complete creative experience!  I really love the idea of supporting a great place like The Cultch – such a wonderful venue with so much cool stuff going on – we need to turn our attention to such cultural events, and enrich our lives by sharing in the talent that surrounds us” (Michael Bray, owner/operator of The Art Express).
The Family Time Series at The Cultch will continue next year, beginning in the Fall, and The Art Express will be offering up their art fun/theatre fun combo to families with children between 6 – 10 years of age.  The Cultch plans to hold four family time series over the 2010/2011 theatre season.  Contact The Art Express by e-mail info@theartexpress.com for more information and to be put on their contact list.
