Italian Day on the Drive! 12 – 8 pm Sunday, June 5, 2011! (http://www NULL.thedrive NULL.ca/italian-day-2011 NULL.shtm)
We are getting super excited to see all the activities for Italian Day on Commercial Drive this coming Sunday. Last year’s Italian Day was one of the nicest events we’ve seen on The Drive in all these years! Totally family friendly plus, think of all the pizza and gelato…….
Come celebrate ‘all that is Italian’ from Venables to the Grandview cut on Commercial Drive, Vancouver’s original ‘Little Italy’. Join over 50,000 attendees on June 5th 2011 from noon until 8pm as ‘La Dolce Vita’ hits the street in style to include food, entertainment, fashion, specialty products, activities and much more. Share the spirit, pride and tradition as we pay tribute to the Italian community and the contributions made to this city as Vancouver celebrates its 125th birthday and Italians commemorate Italy’s 150th anniversary of unification. Viva l’Italia e benvenuti a tutti!
Don’t miss this years’ event!
Come and get a dandelion Kids balloon!
Ciao.

Marthe Jocelyn and Tom Slaughter explore opposites in this gorgeous introduction to modern art for small readers. Cut paper images introduce children to color, form, and design as they explore tall giraffes and short mice, squares and circles, light day and dark night.
An art book as well as a sound learning tool, Over Under is stunningly simple and simply stunning.
(http://shop NULL.dandelionkids NULL.ca/ran37 NULL.html)
Marthe Jocelyn’s simple concept of matching creatures — familiar and unusual — with their favorite foods is brought to life by the sparkling colors and masterfully cut paper shapes of Tom Slaughter’s illustrations; a first taste of modern art. And the surprise final picture makes a satisfying dessert.
Toronto-born Marthe Jocelyn is an award-winning author and illustrator who lives in Stratford, Ontario. Her picture book Hannah’s Collections was short-listed for the Governor General’s Literary Award for Illustration and her novel Mable Riley received the TD Canadian Children’s Literature Award.
Tom Slaughter makes his home in New York City. His artwork has been exhibited in the United States, Europe, Japan, and Canada. His prints are in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art and the Whitney Museum of Modern Art.

First printed in 1973, this reissue of the childhood classic, I Know a Lot of Things (http://shop NULL.dandelionkids NULL.ca/rain40 NULL.html), is a celebration of all the new and intriguing knowledge children delight in possessing. Written from the simplicity of a child’s perspective, the plain-but-powerful text voices important childhood knowledge such as “I know when I look in the mirror, what I see is me” and that “dogs go bowwow and that is how they talk.” Illustrated with graphic designer Paul Rand’s colorful, playful artwork, I Know a Lot of Things, with all the teeny nuggets of wisdom contained therein, is destined to please a new generation.
Ann Rand wrote five children’s books including Sparkle and Spin (http://shop NULL.dandelionkids NULL.ca/rain17 NULL.html) (also available at dandelion KIDS), A Book About Words, four of which were illustrated by her husband. In addition to the four children’s books he illustrated, Paul Rand wrote and co-authored several others, and designed some of the best-known corporate icons of his time, including the logos for ABC, IBM, and UPS.
