First printed in 1973, this reissue of the childhood classic, I Know a Lot of Things (http://shop NULL.dandelionkids NULL.ca/rain40 NULL.html), is a celebration of all the new and intriguing knowledge children delight in possessing. Written from the simplicity of a child’s perspective, the plain-but-powerful text voices important childhood knowledge such as “I know when I look in the mirror, what I see is me” and that “dogs go bowwow and that is how they talk.” Illustrated with graphic designer Paul Rand’s colorful, playful artwork, I Know a Lot of Things, with all the teeny nuggets of wisdom contained therein, is destined to please a new generation.
Ann Rand wrote five children’s books including Sparkle and Spin (http://shop NULL.dandelionkids NULL.ca/rain17 NULL.html) (also available at dandelion KIDS), A Book About Words, four of which were illustrated by her husband. In addition to the four children’s books he illustrated, Paul Rand wrote and co-authored several others, and designed some of the best-known corporate icons of his time, including the logos for ABC, IBM, and UPS.

All of the shoes in the store are plain and dull except for one pair: the apple red shoes, just waiting to be picked. The little girl knows they are the shoes for her, but can she convince her mom? This cheerful tale is matched with charming illustrations that depict the fashions of the 1960′s.
The Red Shoes is written by Eleri Glass and illustrated by Ashley Spires.

Who do you think of when you see a hammer and a saw? A carpenter! What about a shovel and a watering can? In Taro Miura’s deceptively simple book, children will discover more than sixty different tools, both familiar and new. Even the youngest readers will find the striking images engaging, and older children will be fascinated by the chance to guess which profession uses each set of tools before they turn the page. A wonderful tour of a variety of jobs and the tools they use to fix, build, and create.
Taro Miura is a multiple-award-winning illustrator and graphic designer. He lives in Japan.

The Boy From the Sun (http://shop NULL.dandelionkids NULL.ca/sr12 NULL.html) by Duncan Weller.
Three gloomy children sit on the sidewalk when a little boy with a yellow, shining head floats down beside them. He takes them on a journey through the wonders of nature. Evocative illustrations combine with poetic text in this enchanting story about taking the time to appreciate the natural world.
Duncan Weller recently won the top Canadian illustration prize, the Governor General’s Award for Children’s Literature, Illustration. He both writes and illustrates his children’s picture books. His adult paintings combine traditional working methods with new technologies culminating in DVD/CD projects enlisting the help of animators and musicians. A retrospective of his work was held at the Thunder Bay Art Gallery from April 4 to May 18, 2008. Duncan now spends equal time writing adult works, poetry, short stories, and is currently working on a screenplay for a film to be shot in Thunder Bay.

The Happy Lion (http://shop NULL.dandelionkids NULL.ca/ran07 NULL.html) written by Louise Fatio and illustrated by Robert Duvoisin.
A friendly lion in a small French zoo enjoys the visits of the townspeople who stop by each day to say Bonjour, Happy Lion. So one day, when the zookeeper forgets to close the lion’s door, the Happy Lion decides to return the visits to all the nice people of the town. To his amazement, as he strolls through the town his friends scream and run from him, the police and fire brigade are called, and people cower in their shops or houses. How a small boy saves the day concludes a wonderfully satisfying story that is just the right length for bedtime or anytime.
At age 50, The Happy Lion continues to charm and delight. We couldn’t agree more!
