Ok Kids and Parents get ready for one of the best kids shows out there – Yo Gabba Gabba! DJ Lance Rock and his cartoonish costumed characters (made by Kidrobot (http://www NULL.kidrobot NULL.com)) – Muno, Foofa, Brobee, Toodee and Plex. Musical numbers that will knock your socks off and will even get you dancing.

(http://yogabbagabba NULL.com)

On April 31, 2008 the television show received a Daytime Emmy nomination for Outstanding Achievement in Costume Design/Styling. Although “Yo Gabba Gabba” was created as a show for young children, it has slowly become a sensation among college students and even some parents who are entertained by its retro/indie style, bright colours, simplicity, and entertaining music from many of the popular bands featured on the show.

There will be 4 shows at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre, September 11 & 12, 2010. Tickets go on sale tomorrow at TicketMaster (http://www NULL.ticketmaster NULL.ca/artist/1370489?tm_link=)!

Wednesday Morning Story Time: For Just One Day

Tuesday, June 1st, 2010

Wednesday Morning Story Time is happening tomorrow…We’re going to read For Just One Day by Laura Leuck. This story was such a hit with the little ones that we are presenting it again for their listening pleasure!

For just one day, I’d like to be a busy, buzzing bumble…BEE!
What child hasn’t pretended to be a monkey, a bear, or a bumblebee? After imagining the fun of being a variety of animals from around the world, a sweet ending—and an attached mirror—remind little ones that the very best thing they can be is exactly who they are.

Laura Leuck is the author of several popular books, including Jeepers Creepers: A Monstrous ABC, Santa Claws, and My Monster Mama Loves Me So. She lives in Florida. Marc Boutavant is an illustrator, graphic artist, and comic strip author. He lives in Paris.

You can find For Just One Day (http://shop NULL.dandelionkids NULL.ca/rain35 NULL.html) on our web store (http://shop NULL.dandelionkids NULL.ca/rain35 NULL.html).

About Wednesday Morning Story Time: We will be reading a different book from our vast selection Wednesdays at 10:30 am at our Port Moody store. Try to swing by every Wednesday morning… and we’ll read to your child while you can enjoy the book, browse, shop or just daydream. If you like the book we’ve read, you will be able purchase it at a special price on the day of the reading.

We’ve teamed up with our friendly neighbours, the Suter Brook Village Booster Juice, so your kids can enjoy a kids size smoothie on dandelion KIDS, while listening to our story. Yummy!!

Please RSVP with a phone call or email so we have an idea of how many pillows to put out and juices to order.

We look forward to seeing you on Wednesday mornings!

Our Visit to the UBC Botanical Garden

Friday, May 28th, 2010

On a sunny Saturday a few weeks ago, I took my kids on an adventure to the UBC Botanical Garden (http://www NULL.ubcbotanicalgarden NULL.org). We went to walk high above the ground in the midst of gorgeous big trees on the Greenheart Canopy Walkway. We were all super excited and our trip did not disappoint.

When we got to the beginning of the walkway, a guide met us to give us a very informative tour as we were climbing the gently swinging roped-in walkway. Not only did he tell us about the different trees, but he included information about the animals that favoured them, the uses of each by First Nations Peoples and how the walkway was constructed without any harm to the trees themselves. My kids found this part the most fascinating… How does the walkway and all the big platforms around the trees stay up without any nails or fasteners drilled into the trees?

At the end of our tour, he let us jump and bounce on the last part of the walkway which was pretty amazing. We had some time left and went for a stroll through the gardens themselves.

There are bee hives, a tunnel, a giant boulder to climb on and some of the most amazing plants you have ever seen. A favourite was the ancient Gingko Biloba tree. I can’t wait for my next free Saturday as the garden is always changing and is worth visiting several times over the year. This is also a perfect place to bring visitors from out-of-town.

The Botanical Garden has just started kids summer camps – what a great place to send your little ones for a week of fun! You can learn more about the Garden’s Young Explorers Summer Day Camp program here (http://www NULL.ubcbotanicalgarden NULL.org/kids/summer-camp NULL.php). There’s a contest on the yoyomama.ca website to win a free week at camp (http://www NULL.yoyomama NULL.ca/2010/05/ubc_botanical_garden_young_explorers_summer_camp_contest/) too (enter soon, the contest only runs until June 7th).
