What’s better than cosying up on pillows and being read to? Especially on cold, rainy days!

This week, we’ll be selecting another title from one of the many new books we have in store. Join us!

About Wednesday Morning Story Time: We will be reading a different book from our vast selection Wednesdays at 10:30 am at our Port Moody store. Try to swing by every Wednesday morning… and we’ll read to your child while you can enjoy the book, browse, shop or just daydream. If you like the book we’ve read, you will be able purchase it at a special price on the day of the reading.

Please RSVP with a phone call or email so we have an idea of how many fluffy pillows to put out.

We look forward to seeing you on Wednesday mornings!

dandelion KIDS is turning 6 and having a SALE to celebrate.

Thursday, October 21st, 2010

We just love getting older! And 6 is such a great age…perfect for climbing trees, riding bikes, twirling around and having tons of adventures. But mostly, we just have fun at dandelion KIDS and we hope it shows! From the day we opened our doors on Commercial Drive, we knew that we wanted to create an environment that was always welcoming and enjoyable to visit, whether to shop for a gift or new clothes, or just to stop in and play for awhile. We love being part of this diverse and charming community, our lovely new community in Port Moody and a destination for those of you who make the trek from elsewhere around the Lower Mainland.

One of our favourite things is hearing how coming to our store has become a ritual for many of you, year after year, to select the most special gifts or pick up little treats on rainy days. It is a delight to see so many big happy kids, whose parents selected their first tiny outfits from us when they were just babies, now come in to chose birthday gifts for their friends and family. And as our clients have grown up, so have we by extending our size range from newborn all the way to 10 Years, increasing our selection of non-toxic, organic, fair trade and simply wonderful items and trying to make each new window display even better than the last.

Thank you for letting us grow with you!

SALE: dandelion KIDS is celebrating its 6th birthday with 25% off our entire store (with the exception of Strider Bikes and Beco Carriers) and free shipping on all Canadian web orders from October 22-24. Free shipping on web orders is in lieu of 25% discount as online discounts cannot be offered as of yet.

UBC Apple Festival

Thursday, October 14th, 2010

We can’t wait to head out to the UBC Botanical Garden this weekend for the 20th anniversary of the UBC Apple Festival. There will be over 37,000+ pounds of apples including 9000 pounds of the freshest yummiest organic apples around. Last year, there were apples as big as the kids’ heads. Now there’s a good healthy snack!

The event is on all weekend (October 16 and 17) from 11 am to 4pm. The Apple Festival includes free valet bike parking, a really awesome children’s area with all sorts of apple themed games, crafts and activities for the little ones. The delightful yoymama.ca will also be there with a craft table and super give-away. Plus, lively Grist to the Mill, will be playing a family friendly concert from 1-2pm on both days. Did we mention that there is also apple pie, hot apple cider and other delectable treats?

Unbelievably, admission is only $2.00 (kids 12 and under are free) and includes entrance to the whole, gorgeous Botanical Garden. If you haven’t had a chance to enjoy the Greenheart Canopy Walkway, there is a 15% discount with admission to the Apple Festival. It’s amazing.

If you would like to taste the over 60 varieties of heritage, new and “tried and true” varieties available, go early to the apple tasting. This yummy diversion is an additional $3.00 but we think it is entirely worth it. Yum.

Introducing: The North Face Winter Outerwear

Friday, October 8th, 2010

We really are stoked to have The North Face in our shops! Perfectly warm winter outerwear from infants to big kids. To celebrate, with every The North Face purchase, your name will be entered to win one of two cosy Glacier Full-Zip Hoodies. Perfect for layering!

Baby, it’s gonna get cold outside! Infants are kept happy bundled up in super soft bunting suits, toddlers can hit the slopes (or throw snowballs) in comfort and style with bib-front pants and matching jackets, and those big kids, well, these cool ski pants and jackets will keep them toasty warm and looking good all day long.

The North Face products are of the highest quality and their outerwear ranges from water-resistant to completely waterproof. Many pieces have EZ-Zip or EZ-Grow functionality to keep children safe, able to help themselves, and in their winter wear the whole season even as they grow. Insulated with Heatseeker technology or goose down, there is a choice for everyone! Plus, the North Face products are fully warranted to the original owner against defects in materials and workmanship for the lifetime of the product.

Technical  Information:

HyVent®

HyVent® is a superior waterproof, breathable technology utilizing a polyurethane (PU) coating that consists of a tri-component multilayer formula for waterproof protection, moisture permeability, and durability. This technology has been lab tested in The North Face® Quality Assurance lab to ensure the best possible durability and function while also maintaining a comfortable level of breathability. The minimum breathability achieved using HyVent® is 600 g/m2/24 hours on the Moisture Vapor Transfer Rate (MVTR) scale.1 To test the level of waterproofness, The North Face® subjected HyVent® garments to 20 wash cycles2, after which they retained an average of more than 60 PSI on the waterproofing Mullens Test3. In addition to quantitative lab science, qualitative feedback has been factored into HyVent® development, and HyVent® garments have been heavily field-tested for over three years with outstanding proof of long-term performance. Says skier and mountaineer Rick Armstrong, who has many first descents of famed
Peaks to his name: “This technology keeps me out in the storms, catching the best snow long after most people have gone inside. It’s just as good—if not better—than anything else on the market.”

Heatseeker

Heatseeker- The North Face’s proprietary synthetic insulation offers a great warmth-to-weight ratio, is highly compressible, and is extremely durable, making it ideal for cold weather excursions that require warmth at minimal bulk.

Goose Down Insulation

The North Face® uses only the highest quality goose down in all of its products. Each lot of down is thoroughly tested at three stages of production for loftiness, moisture resistance, and ability to regain loft after compression.  The fill power of goose down is an indicator of two important features: the warmth-to-weight ratio and compressibility, both critical to the user’s warmth and comfort. True fill power is measured by placing one ounce of down in a graduated cylinder and measuring the volume the down occupies in cubic inches.  The North Face® products are insulated with exclusive, high-fill power down ranging from 550 fill to 900 fill, which represents the highest-quality down commercially available.

EZ Grow

Extend the length—and life—of your child’s pants with EZ Grow. It’s a simple way for pants to last even longer. When your child is about to outgrow his or her pants, follow the below steps. 1 Turn them inside out. 2 Remove the red seam. 3 Extend the cuffs 2 inches.

EZ Zip

For little fingers, aligning zippers can be a struggle, especially when it’s cold. And parents sometimes wrestle with zippers just as much as kids, especially when little ones are itching to get outside. Our EZ Zip zipper design makes zippers easy, Thanks to a unique design, the zipper can be inserted vertically, as usual, or started at an angle and rotated into position, then zipped up. No more struggling.
