Wednesday Morning Story Time: Foggy

Tuesday, February 23rd, 2010

Wednesday Morning Story Time is happening tomorrow… We’re going to read from Robin Mitchell-Cranfield & Judith Steedman’s Foggy. Rainy and his dog Foggy set out to sea on their raft. Suddenly a thick fog rolls in. Adrift in the mist, they see their friends through the fog and say hello. When the clouds lift, Rainy and Foggy return to camp to roast hot dogs. Color photographs of adorable dolls illustrate this engaging story, the fourth in the Windy series. Learn more about Foggy on the Simply Read Books website (http://www NULL.simplyreadbooks NULL.com/book NULL.php?book_id=1).

Last week VancouverIsAwesome profiled us in their Home Grown section, a feature which celebrates their favourite local companies. We were ecstatic when we heard that they wanted to feature us, seeing as VancouverIsAwesome (http://www NULL.vancouverisawesome NULL.com) is one of our favourite websites. Their ultra-positive attitude is a breath of fresh air.

Here’s what they said about us:

Dandelion KIDS is one of my favourite kids’ stores in Vancouver. They’re eco-minded – from the products they choose to stock, like a great selection of colourful organic clothing right down to their biodegradable bags – they’ve got a personable, multi-lingual staff, their store is easy to navigate, they constantly are giving back to the community, they have amazing window displays but honestly what I love the most about them is that they just have a lot of really cool products for kids. Their taste in and selection of products is second to none.

Our youngest contributor, Arlo, originally turned me onto Dandelion KIDS when he bought a pair of Kid Ear Muffs there to protect his hearing when he goes to shows (click HERE to get a look at them in his Said The Whale review) and he told me that he’s super excited that we’re highlighting them in a Home Grown feature… and of course I agree!

If you don’t believe Arlo and I, simply ask everybody else; they were just voted the Favourite Kids Clothing Store on the Eastside in the 2010 Vancouver Courier Stars of Vancouver award!

Sunday is Valentine’s Day!

Saturday, February 13th, 2010

Along with construction paper hearts with doilies and sweet messages, smooches, snuggles, hugs, and kisses are the best part of Valentine’s Day.

Should you want to add a little treat that isn’t sugary, dandelion KIDS has cool red race cars, pretty hair bows, non-toxic peel-off red nail polish in heart shaped bottles, lots of cool stickers and amazing art supplies.

But if Valentine’s does spell chocolate at your house, our waistlines can attest to our close proximity to 2 amazing chocolate shops. Dutch Girl Chocolates (1002 Commercial Drive, 604.251.3221) has loads of treats for everyone in your family including the ever-popular Kama Sutra chocolates for adults only! Rubens Chocolates (146 Brew Street, www.rubenschocolate.ca (http://www NULL.rubenschocolate NULL.ca/), 604.469.2468) which is a stone’s throw from our Port Moody shop, makes super yummy chocolates as well as THE BEST Hot Chocolate ever. Yum!

For the adults we have included a great love mix you can download (http://www NULL.divshare NULL.com/download/10449217-30b) from our friends at Fortune Night Club…

Happy Valentine’s Day!

For our second week of Wednesday Morning Story Time, we’re going to read from Jennifer Lloyd’s Ella’s Umbrellas. Ella has a house full of umbrellas and needs to clean up the house because her aunt is coming to visit (something we can all appreciate around this rainy time of year). This book is filled with beautiful watercolour illustrations by Ashley Spires. We love this book, and want to share it with your child. Learn more about Ella’s Umbrellas on the Simply Read Books website (http://www NULL.simplyreadbooks NULL.com/book NULL.php?book_id=76).

You can find Ella’s Umbrellas on our web store (http://shop NULL.dandelionkids NULL.ca/sr31 NULL.html).

Grouse Mountain Wind Turbine Officially Opens

Monday, February 8th, 2010

Have you looked up on Grouse Mountain (http://www NULL.grousemountain NULL.com) lately? Have you seen anything different? Something that stands about 65 metres tall?

Work started back in the summer on a massive wind turbine up on the mountain, and we’ve followed along as the huge structure was built. Well, it officially opened this past Friday (February 5th), and will generate 20% of Grouse Mountain’s overall electricity. Pretty cool! Did you know our blog runs on wind power?

Here’s a video of Premiere Gordon Campbell at the ribbon cutting ceremony. Photos from the opening day ceremonies can be found at that link, as well as more photos from the construction phase (seen in the gallery above). If you’d like to see the gallery larger, clicking here will super-size it in a new window (http://www NULL.flickr NULL.com/photos/57942528 null@null N00/sets/72157622461669392/show/).

dandelion KIDS Wins Stars of Vancouver Award

Tuesday, February 2nd, 2010

We received an email from the Vancouver Courier (http://www2 NULL.canada NULL.com/vancouvercourier/index NULL.html) a few weeks ago notifying us of something pretty special. The email said “Congratulations! You are a winner in the STARS OF VANCOUVER. Dandelion Kids has been recognized as 1st place in the Kids Clothing Store category Eastside.”

Wow! Now that’s the kind of email we love receiving! We were surprised and thrilled when we found out that Vancouver Courier readers had chosen us as their favourite.

Here’s the ad we took out to thank the people of Vancouver’s Eastside. Thanks again to everybody that voted us your favourite!
