Dvider Wall Decals are back in stock!

Thursday, August 27th, 2009

Bright, graphic wall decals to enhance any room!  Our favourites include the almost 4 foot tall giraffe and the cheeky monkey as well as the slender, airy dragonfly and the large abstract tree. Put them on the ceiling, on the wall, the floor, across a door, on a window! You can even double them up and offset them for a slight 3D effect…the possibilities are endless!

Our next Dvider project?  Redoing our entire window front at Port Moody!

Free Rice: Have Fun, and Feed Hungry People

Free Rice

Do you remember spending hours at a time playing Tetris? How it was kind of relaxing and slightly stressful at the same time?  And when you went to sleep at night, your mind was still fitting those little blocks into place? Well, I have found my adult equivalent and it’s even better! It’s www.freerice.com (http://www NULL.freerice NULL.com). It allows me to help better the world, just 10 grains of rice at a time, and also enrich my vocabulary. The Tetris part is that I can’t stop (which ultimately is a good thing) and when I do finally stumble off to bed, there are all sorts of obscure words floating around in my head (which I suppose is also a good thing).

Here’s a little more info:

FreeRice is a non-profit website run by the United Nations World Food Program with partner, the Berkman Center for Internet & Society at Harvard University.

FreeRice has two goals:

1. Provide education to everyone for free.
2. Help end world hunger by providing rice to hungry people for free.

This is made possible by the generosity of the sponsors whose names you see on the banners at the bottom of your screen. When you enter a correct answer, they pay for the rice that gets donated.

FreeRice does not make any money from this. It is run entirely for free and at no profit. All money (100%) raised by the site goes to the UN World Food Program to help feed the hungry. Sponsors make all payments to the UN World Food Program directly.

Though 10 grains of rice may seem like a small amount, it is important to remember that while you are playing, so are thousands of other people at the same time. It is everyone together that makes the difference. Thanks to you, FreeRice has generated enough rice to feed millions of people since it started in October 2007.

Have fun playing!

Help Stop BC Library Cuts

Library materials in whole or in part have been brought to you by an annual operating grant supplied by the province of British Columbia. This grant is in jeopardy, despite a surge of public library use across BC. Please visit this site www.stopbclibrarycuts.ca (http://www NULL.stopbclibrarycuts NULL.ca) and join the campaign to stop these cuts.

Since my kids love going to the library so much, they signed too!

What’s Miss Maggie Doing? Canoeing on Alouette Lake

Saturday, August 8th, 2009

Miss Maggie goes canoeing (intro) (http://dandelionkids NULL.ca/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/08/Miss-Maggie-goes-canoeing-1 NULL.jpg)

Ever since little Miss Maggie came into our lives back in March of 2007, she’s been stealing hearts everywhere she goes. Her first day home, she was curled up in her basket at dandelion KIDS, and she can often be found at our Commercial Drive location or our new Port Moody shop – wherever I (Maria) happen to be working that day. Unless she’s spending time with Vince and the boys (the most amazing dogsitters) or with any of her other friends. You can see her lighting up the faces of the many children (and adults) that stop by the shop. She also lets the neighborhood dogs know who’s turf they’re on! Sometimes you might have to look very hard to find her, because she might be curled up in the window display taking advantage of the sun.

Check out a few pictures of Miss Maggies latest adventure – canoeing on Alouette Lake. I think we’ve found her new favourite pastime… but I wonder if she just likes sporting the orange PFD (from Three Dog Bakery (http://www NULL.threedogvancouver NULL.com)) and being the ‘mermaid’ at the front of the canoe.

Check back later to see what else Miss Maggie has been up to!

Friday, August 7th, 2009

The cool boys clothes for Fall are starting to arrive at dandelion KIDS!

For Ben Sherman fans, there are ultra-cool guitar print button front boys shirts (for a little retro flair, a black skinny leather tie would totally complete this look!) and gorgeous blue zip up hoodies. Both are available in store and online.  Next week, look forward to puffy vests, cool tees and hoodies from Appaman. This collection is another perfect blend of vintage Americana and contemporary cool.  For the little, little ones, colourful printed sleepers from Vancouver company Sweet Peanut will be here soon. These are perfect for girls too!

Stay tuned for more arrivals at Dandelion…
